Cousin de Stochelo Rosenberg, Jimmy Rosenberg commence à jouer de la guitare à l'âge de sept ans. Deux ans plus tard, il choisit le trio The Gypsy Kids, qui jouait dans la tradition du jazz manouche et figurait dans le documentaire britannique Django Legacy. Le trio a sorti son premier album, Safari, alors que Rosenberg avait douze ans. Un an plus tard, Rosenberg publia son premier album solo, Swinging avec Jimmy Rosenberg.
En 1995, les Gypsy Kids étaient composés de Jimmy Rosenberg, Johnny Rosenberg et Rinus Steinbach. Ils se sont produits au festival Django Reinhardt en France et ont fait une tournée aux États-Unis. Pour éviter un procès par les Gipsy Kings, les Gypsy Kids ont changé leur nom en Sinti. Rosenberg a poursuivi une carrière solo en 1997.
