We The Sinti # 1 / Gypsy

we the sinti / wir die sinti / nous les sinti /

PART_1

Almost twelve million Sinti and Roma live in Europe. In many countries their situation is precarious. Roma often live on the margins of society, especially in south-eastern Europe. In the former socialist states they are worse off today than they were before the turn of the century in 1989/90. They suffer from a reality of life that promotes poverty, from prejudice and antigypsy resentment. Dealing with the past and present of the Sinti and Roma in Europe is politically significant. Authors and journalists shed light on economic, social and cultural backgrounds from different perspectives. They want to break down prejudices and clichés and identify discriminatory attitudes towards the Sinti and Roma. The focus of the dossier is a map of Europe: the countries from which the analyzes and interviews, reports and essays come are colored and the content can be clicked directly on. The map not only provides clarity, it also visualizes the focus of this dossier: Europe. And since the discussion about the situation of the Sinti and Roma has only just begun in Europe, we will regularly add current information and new developments to the map.
